AirBnB banned from Berlin: good news for the hotel industry ?
The city of Berlin is actively fighting the development of AirBnB. The "AirBnB vs Berlin" website illustrates and justifies the city's policy. This is good news for the hotel industry and European REITs which have become more active hotel investors as office and shopping center yields are decreasing. Yet, AirBnb is only one of the players of the sharing economy impacting the sector. In the medium term, a decrease in RevPAR is likely in Europe due to the negative impact of the sharing economy. This makes the new hotel/youth hostels (e.g. Generator Hostels) even more attractive for investors. More on AirBnB banned from Berlin here.
